Although we are entering summer vacation time, Ross Woodward is already preparing for the opening of school in September. While summer is a time for reflection, intellectual renewal for our students, recreation and relaxation, we are hopeful that it is also a time of preparation for the academic year ahead. Specifically, we are hoping that the summer offers opportunities for reading. At Ross Woodward we believe that reading is the gateway to academic success. Ross Woodward students are expected to read every day for at least 20 minutes per day. Have fun exploring the many, many books available at our public libraries. Remember, your child’s public library card can be used at any Connecticut public library. We recommend students sign up for New Haven Free Public Library’s Summer Reading Club “Every Hero Has A Story”. This club is open to all New Haven Public Schools students. To join, visit the New Haven Free Public Library or any NHFPL branch, and sign up! Students can use their passport to earn prizes. Find more information on www.nhfpl.org. In addition to the NHFPL Summer Reading Club, students will be required to complete work packet for Ross Woodward. The packet must be submitted to your child’s new homeroom teacher by Friday, September 11, 2015. Complete booklets will be awarded with “Ross Woodward Bucks” for use in admission to Fun Friday events. Please encourage your child to read nightly. Choose a special place to read. It should not be a chore, but part of the daily routine that is part of his/her life. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to extending your child’s education throughout the summer.
